Our official Centennial logo is designed by Steve Murphy and Petra Bockus, it will be used throughout the Centennial Year. In addition, you will have noticed the beautiful painting on the cover of the Centennial Calendar and on the large banner outside. Karen Inselsbacher's original drawing was adapted by Petra Bockus and then painted as a watercolor by Grace Macpherson. The Heritage/Centennial Committee would like to thank Steve and Petra in particular, as well as Karen and Grace for all the time and effort spent creating these wonderful designs. In addition, thank you to everyone else who submitted designs for our Centennial Logo. They were all excellent and made the selection process very difficult. Hanging the Centennial Banner - December 2011 The Centennial of St Nicholas Church: 1912-2012
From the Past, Into the Future: St Nicholas Church, Birch Cliff The Reverend Charles Etienne Luce was the first Rector of St Nicholas’ Church - read about him here » St Nicholas’ Centennial, Report to Vestry, 2011 At last year’s Vestry, a centennial programme was proposed and the Steering Committee called for volunteers to participate in the various sub-committees. Prior to this initiative, Parish Council approved a budget of $10,000 for our Centennial celebrations, to come from the budgets of 2011 and 2012. In April 2010 the various subcommittees were formed. They presently consist of the following 22 parishioners:
Much work has been done by each committee to contribute to the proposed year of events:
These events will be celebrated in combination with our normal year of events and services. Among the many other Centennial components we plan to have a special commemorative musical composition, letters of congratulation from a host of dignitaries, memorabilia, a photograph of St Nicholas’ Church in the national church calendar, a commemorative plaque from Heritage Toronto, archival displays, a special Centennial logo, visits from past clergy and parishioners, several special speakers, and much more. More announcements of our progress will be made in the Sunday bulletins, our website, and in other media. Finally, the Steering Committee wishes to sincerely thank the committee volunteers for their participation, Parish Council for its support and encouragement, and the congregation for its growing interest and input. Further information will be forthcoming throughout the coming year.
